Delete your account
This page is how you ask for your MapCrumbs - Travel Diary account and the personal data stored with it to be deleted. The developer is Michael Ganchas (Portugal). The Android package on Google Play is app.mapcrumbs.
How to delete the account
Delete the account in the app. That is the primary method, and it removes the data listed below for the account you are signed in with, including an anonymous session.
- Open MapCrumbs.
- Go to the app’s settings or profile.
- Choose delete account and confirm.
The exact label can vary by version. It lives in settings or profile, not in a separate website login.
If you cannot use the app
Email is the alternative. Send a message to mapcrumbs.contact@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my MapCrumbs account”.
- Send it from the email address on the account. If you use Sign in with Apple’s private relay, write from that relay address or include the user id.
- If the account has no email (anonymous, or phone-only), include the user id shown in the app.
- Say that you want the account and its data deleted. You do not need to explain why.
We may reply to confirm we have the right account. We then delete the data described below from active systems without undue delay, and we aim to finish within 30 days. You will get a short confirmation when it is done, unless we have no working email for that account. Deleting in the app does not wait on that email.
If you never added an email, Google, Apple, or phone login
The app signs in anonymously on first launch so the diary can be saved. That session is still an account on our servers. While the app is installed, use delete account in settings or profile. That deletes the anonymous account you are in.
- Uninstalling removes the app and the local copy from your device. It does not reliably delete diary data already saved under that anonymous user id. After the app is gone, we often cannot tell which id was yours.
- If you already uninstalled, email mapcrumbs.contact@gmail.com with the user id if you still have it. If you do not, include the device type and roughly when you used MapCrumbs. We will delete whatever we can still match to you.
What we delete
After you delete the account in the app, or after we verify an email request, we delete:
- the Firebase Authentication account: user id, and the email, phone number, Google profile name, and Google profile photo stored for that login
- your cities, visits, Crumbs, notes, and categories you created
- photos you uploaded and the photo records tied to your user id
- traveller suggestions and other diary records stored for that user id
- the push token used for notifications to that install, where we can match it
- crash reports we can match to that user id
A link you already sent to someone else stays on their device. We cannot erase a copy they saved.
What we keep, and for how long
- Hotel booking records. If you booked a stay, we keep the booking record (hotel, dates, status, price, and confirmation details) after the account is deleted. We need it to finish the stay, handle cancellation, refunds, and disputes, and to meet tax and accounting duties in Portugal. That period is normally up to 10 years. Guest name and email for the booking are handled by Nuitée Travel Limited (LiteAPI). Ask us if you also want those booking details limited to what the law still requires.
- Backups. A hosting backup can hold a residual copy until that backup expires. We do not restore a deleted account from backup to keep using it.
- Records we cannot tie to you. Aggregated counts, and crash reports with no user id, can remain. Catalogue content about a city (reference photos and city stories) is not your account and is not deleted.
Export before you delete
You can ask for a copy of your data first. Email mapcrumbs.contact@gmail.com with the subject “Export my MapCrumbs data”, from the account email or with your user id. The same contact handles both export and deletion. Details are in the privacy policy.
